Domain Pricing Information

John Willie woman in birdcageThis is always the fun part.

First, two strong suggestions:

One: Unless a domain is specifically marked as for sale at a cheaper price, you should assume that it won’t be available unless you offer more than a thousand U.S. dollars for it.

This has almost nothing to do with the putative market value of these domains. It’s just that the domain owner doesn’t realize enough cash from small transactions to justify the time and energy and paperwork necessary to complete a domain sale with a stranger. He’d rather keep a $300 domain, than hassle with selling it.

Two: Please don’t waste time (yours and ours) by sending email asking “How much do you want for such-and-so.com?” Such emails will often be ignored. At best, you’ll get a “how much are you offering?” reply with a link to this website.

The reason is simple: for every serious buyer, there are a dozen people looking for stupid-great bargains only. There just isn’t time to price domains for people who haven’t signaled serious buying interest. An email with no offer fails to signal buying interest, and thus there’s no incentive to answer such emails.

So, if you are a potential domain buyer, your first contact should be an offer. It doesn’t need to be your best and final offer, or even close to it. But it should be your “no-brainer” price, the highest price at which you’d snap up the domain without a second thought. Making such an offer qualifies you as (at least minimally) serious, if the offer is in the right ballpark. And even if you aren’t in the ballpark, you’ve greatly improved your chances of hearing back from the domain owner with an asking price.

Pricing Policy:

It would be impossible to price all the domains in this portfolio and keep the prices current. However, the portfolio owner’s own “no brainer” sale price is in the four figures ($,$$$) for the vast majority of these properties. The best dozen or two domains would require various five-figure offers to prompt a sale, but (to be frank) sale of the best domains is low priority. The best domains will move (if at all) at “Don’t-Want-To-Sell-It-Very-Bad” prices.
